Merchants of Grain
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (October, 2000)
Author: Dan Morgan
Average review score:

Eating is a fundamental reality to citizens and politicians
I first read this book 20 years ago and was awed by the importance of the distribution of grain to the world, and particularly to one-party dictators. Anyone who understands political power knows that a small number of soldiers can control a much larger populace of people i.e. the German SS figured one storm trooper for roughly every 1000 plus people. However, when those people are all hungry at the same time it becomes another matter entirely, as in more difficult.

This book shows how a few big companies control the distribution of grain throughout the world. In so doing they are not prone to accept "aging receivables" from dictators, tin-pot or otherwise. Every political leader must understand the importance of grain or face a coup. Of course, one can find those who have lasted longer than others, but only at the cost of so weakening their state that it ultimately crumbles from internal implosion.

Read this book to understand history and more importantly the origen of our food supply and how it reaches our table.

A Must Know for Everybody
An excellent work detailing how only a handful of families have controlled the worlds grain trade for centuries. A great piece for families that till the soil, but one that is even more important to the people who live in the city; and have no idea of the power and control that these families wield. Reading this book will show you how these families control the cheap food policies as well as the commodities markets and other products world wide.

The Grain Industry has it's own OPEC
I am a captain on Mississippi River towboats. I have pushed millions of tons of grain down the Mississippi River for years. But I never really understood the gobal impact of the world's grain company's until I read this book.

Now I understand the real power behind families such as Cargil and ADM's Andreas.

Milan Sklenar: Photographs
Published in Hardcover by University of New Mexico Press (January, 2000)
Authors: Dianay Shearwood, Chris Morgan, Rosemary Mahoney, and Milan Sklenar
Average review score:

Beautifully Simple
The photos included in Sklenar's first published collection of his work represent nearly 30 years of output, and what the photographer calls the "the weigh stations" of his life: Prague, Montreal, New York, Los Angeles, Thompson, Mexico, and Gallup. What the photos show, according to Sklenar, is that "life is the same everywhere, people suffer and are happy in much the same way." His assessment is correct. However, the extraordinary gift he has for revealing the extraordinary cannot go without mention. -- Belinda Acosta, for The Austin Chronicle.

Black and White Images of a Lifetime
Opening this book you step into the world and life of photographer Milan Sklenar. He shows the viewer the places he has been, and the faces he has seen. The range of faces and emotions - fear, hope, despair, joy, boredom, suspicion - are matched by the diversity of locations - Mexico, New York, Thompson, Los Angeles, Montreal, Prague. Although each viewer will undoubtably bring his own experiences to the book and form his own interpretations, no one will be unmoved by these powerful images.

A photographic tour-de-force presentation.
Over 100 photos of this Czech-American artist are presented for the first time in Milan Sklenar: Photographs, a volume which captures urban and street life in stark black and white photos. The artist lived in the streets - his photos of street life in different cultural settings from Mexico to Montreal provide intriguing contrasts and similarities.

Morgan's Tarot Deck

Authors: Morgan Robbins, Darshan Chorpash, and Gordon Chorpash

Earlier Review Clarified.
The "noise" referred to in my earlier review was about lines of text in the book like, "This is an opinion sponsored by entity X-1513." That line doesn't seem to relate at all to the rest of the card's description. Or the du wacky du description? I read my own descriptions into those cards... DWD makes no sense to me at all. I usually take it to mean that I'm not looking around at what is really going on, that I'm navel-gazing.

Enlighten Up with This Deck
I've had this deck for 20 years and I love it. Nothing to memorize, no esoteric secrets. Even tho it's a cartoon, it gives accurate great readings. The imagery and captions are in modern, new age vernacular with a 70's flavor. Everyone smiles when I pull it out. Easy to read and I hardly ever refer to the book, even tho I numbered the cards to match the entries. People don't find it intimidating and find themselves adding to their own reading. Get this deck if you don't take life too seriously and want to have fun with reading. If you want to mystify people you don't want this one.

An AMAZING deck for the Aquarian Age
88 Cards. No suits. No Minor Arcana. No order. Sound confusing? NOT TO WORRY! This is an amazing and intuitive deck!... I've been using this deck (the same one) for 14 years now, and am STILL amazed by its accuracy, veracity, and ability to communicate to the inquirant directly. The previous reviewer complained about the "noise" in the included booklet, "nonsense(?) clouding much of the real information." Let me set the record straight--some of this "nonsense" has spoken to people I've read for in ways that I'd have never forseen or imagined. It is "nonsense" in that it is for non-sense, i.e. right-hemisphere intuition, not left-hemisphere logic and reason--remember, the two hemispheres of the brain are fundamentally at odds. FORGET the Rider-Waite (and wait and wait and wait) deck, this deck taps the collective conciousness of the New Aeon like no other. Oh, and if the previous reviewer has had problems with the non-order of the book, and the lack of numbers on the cards, numbers can be assigned to the cards, by the order they appear in the book, and written on the cards (it's a hand-drawn pen&ink black and white deck, and so hand written numbers are not at all incongruous with the overall appearance of the deck. Everyone I read with this deck wants a copy for themselves, and I hope they'll find one eventually--Let's hope that U.S. Games issues another reprint of this deck, and SOON! After 14 years, my deck's just about worn out! :-)

My Beautiful Broken Shell: Words of Hope to Refresh the Soul
Published in Hardcover by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (April, 2002)
Authors: Carol Hamblet Adams and D. Morgan

A Book to be shared!
When I wanted to share this wonderful little book with the women from my church I put together a program. I found about 20 pictures of the sea that I have taken and the same number of shells ( some broken ) I presented it like the books of our chilhood. As I read the book out loud I would, on occassion, say "pass" and they would pass the picture and the shell to the person next to them. That way they were able to visit the sea and feel the book as well as hear it.
I have given many copies away. It is a great source of inspiration. My suggestion would be; share it!

Inner Peace
After losing my 12 year old son, my soul felt lost. I happened upon this beautiful book in a card store and felt drawn to it. Not only did I feel a connection of being "broken" but my son was a "special needs child" and I saw such an appreciation of seeing the beauty in everything - especially the broken. The original book has long since been given away, as was the second one I purchased. I still long to be able to just pick it up and rekindle my appreciation of where I am.

great book to share with a hurting friend for comfort
I think this book is a great tool for hurting hearts. I am an R.N. and have a calling to comfort people. Sometimes it is hard to find the words but Carol so beautifully enables the reader to feel the pain and hopefully start breaking down barriers to start the healing process.I have a neighbor now disabled from M.S. have promised her I would visit and have tea. I have to admit I was apprehensive about going. I am now looking forward to our visit and sharing My beautiful Broken Shell.Thank you Carol for sharing with us so we can also share.God bless your work.

Not As Briefed: From the Doolittle Raid to a German Stalag
Published in Hardcover by Washington State Univ Pr (August, 2001)
Authors: C. Ross, Colonel Greening, Dorothy Greening, and Karen Morgan Driscoll
Average review score:

The WWII version of the Civil War's Private Sneden
The Doolittle Raid has always been a favorite chapter in history and Ross Greenings account of flying the Hari Kari-er (#11 off the deck of the Hornet) is an incredible new addition. More remarkable is his experience in the N. African and Italian air campaigns resulting in being shot down, capture, escape, capture again and eventual liberation. Because Greening was an illustrator, the book is full of his original work done during the war. In this regard, the experiences and parallels between Greening and Private Robert Knox Sneden of the Civil War are remarkable. Both recorded their respective combat and prison
experiences in journals and illustrations. The printing of "Not as Briefed" is excellent and Washington State University Press has done an incredible job. One can read 50 to 100 books a year, but it is only every 2 or 3 years that one finds a real gem. "Not as Briefed" is one of those gems. It is a simple and humble recounting of a remarkable life. Kudos to WSU Press and the family of Ross Greening for publishing such an historical treasure.

A Fascinating World War II biography
The unpublished manuscript of this book was discovered by the author's neice many years after the author's death. The neice, obviously captivated by her uncle's writing and World War II experiences was motivated in spending 5 years putting together this incredible biography.

Her uncle, Ross Greening, was #11 on the Doolittle Raid. After surviving that assignment, we was transferred to the North African/Italian theater of operations where his B-26 was shot down and his story of evasion and escape from the enemy is what makes Hollywood Movies but don't wait for this to be made into a movie. It is too long and detailed for Hollywood but is a heck of a page turner. It is well written and reads like a novel. But as you read, remember this isn't fiction. This stuff really happened.

Greening was an art major from Washington State U and uses these skills throughout the book with hundreds of illustrations of the events of this story.

If you are at all interested in the human side of war, you will love this one.

Not As Briefed
I enjoyed this book very much and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys WWII stories. This book was an easy read and was filled with exciting and touching events. The personal perspective that Ross gave to the war and his situation made the book very informative. This is a book that you will read more than once.

Not Deaf Enough : Raising a Child Who Is Hard of Hearing With Hugs and Humor
Published in Paperback by Alex Graham Bell Assn for Deaf (December, 1996)
Authors: Patricia Ann Morgan Candlish and P.A.M. Candlish
Average review score:

This is a MUST READ for parents of hard of hearing children
This no-nonsense book is filled with practical, useful information. I highly recommend this book to all parents of hard of hearing children.

As the parent of two hard of hearing children, I have read my share of books about deafness. This is one of the best.

Amazon says the book is out of print, but I checked with the publisher ...and they say they have just reprinted it and it should be available soon.

PAM's Sister who is a Teacher Reviews Not Deaf Enough
A very worthwhile book. I had a chance to reread your book this summer and I found myself learning even more the second time around.(Actually the third time if you count the manuscript.) I always knew your life was not easy but I didn't know just how difficult it has been. You have not only coped beautifully but managed to produce a very worthwhile work out of all your difficulties that will benefit others. Congratulations. I'm lucky to be your older sister. Your book is so easy to read, even the technical parts. I think it should be required reading for everyone in the education field. I loved the way you interspersed it with pictures. I have always been amazed at how you taught Reid to talk. You done great SIS!

Practical, Focused Help for Children with Hearing Problems
"Not Deaf Enough" (the title is devastating in itself, can be read on at least two levels. The first is obvious. The author, mother of a child with hearing deficiencies, gives the reader an account and the benefit of her and her famly's experiences with the system proved deficient. The advice is practical and focussed and comes from an intelligent, tenacious, loving, resourceful and articulate woman. Candlish pulls no punches and does not pussyfoot around the problem. If you are fortunate enough not to have had a major challnege of this sort in your family, then read the book from the perspective of someone who felt that the outside world should get a return on her and her family's investment. With any luck, this book will inspire others to give help and support to others less fortunate. There should be more books written such as this written so clearly. A third level, of course, is that the book is also a character sketch of someone who is playing the hand that she has been dealt without whining and without asking for a new deal.

Original Porsche 924/944/968

Authors: Peter Morgan, Mark Hughes, Simon Clay, and Dieter Rebmann
Average review score:

The essential 944 Book
Every 924, 944 or 968 owner or enthusiast must have a copy of this excellent book by Peter Morgan. The book contains detailed information and superb photographs of all models in the series and is divided into logical chapters. The book is also an excellent reference containing details on VIN's, engine numbers and options.

Orginal PORSCHE 924/944/968
An absoulte must buy for the 924/944 owner. the book clearly guides you thru all models from 1975 to 1995, including the Turbos. All photographs are in color and the details of each model year are discussed. The book also includes specs and import numbers. Almost all options for each year are listed, a big plus when checking out what came with your car.

Informative
I have been driving/racing/instructing in Porsches since 1983, and am on my 3rd 944 series automobile. I only wish this book had come out many years ago, as it contains many of the answers to both the 1st-time and repeat buyers' questions. Its explanations of the rarer "special editions" is extremely helpful in determining which model is best suited for a particular driving style. I feel proud to have actually owned one of the featured models.

Morgan and Yew
Published in Paperback by Price Stern Sloan Pub (November, 1982)
Authors: Stephen Cosgrove, Steven Cosgrove, and Robin James
Average review score:

A lesson for young children about envy.
A dumpy little sheep named Yew wishes he could have a unicorn's horn like his best friend Morgan so that he can feel special instead of ordinary. When the Morning Star grants Yew's wish, he wears the horn for one day, but at the cost of his friend Morgan: the unicorn is gone! After crying of guilt and loneliness all night long, Yew pleads with the Morning Star to restore things to normal. After Morgan comes back to him and the horn is returned to the unicorn, the two friends play together forever and Yew never again envies his best friend.

Even very young children "get" the message in this book. It's been around for years--I even used it while doing my student-teaching more than 15 years ago. With bright, colorful illustrations and sweet characters, this book is a perennial favorite for primary school students.

Best Book Ever!!
I bought this book when I was in 3rd grade, it made me cry then and it makes me cry now! This book is great for kids as well as grown ups. The lesson in this book teaches about having material things at the expense of those we love. Good thing Yew learns the lesson and is able to fix it! In this day in age I am glad they are bringinning these books back. Not only will your child be reading, but learning a very important lesson. Not many books today do that! If you decide to purchase this book you won't regret it and there is a whole series of them, but this one is my favorite!

Still makes me cry
This was the Serendipity book I saved for special, cathartic occasions in my childhood when I had to have a good tearing-up. Possibly the most excellent and moving of the series, with the same beautiful illustrations.

Morgan Greer Tarot Deck and Book Set (Deck&Book)
Published in Misc. Supplies by United States Games Systems (March, 2003)
Authors: Morgan Greer, Lloyd Morgan, Bill Greer, and Susan Gerlskis-Estes
Average review score:

Morgan-Greer Tarot Deck
This is my 5th set of cards and my favorite when doing readings. Its very easy to understand you dont have to focus on the pictures a long time to try to understand its meanings.
The colors are VERY nice. It has an old look to it and the cards are beautiful. This deck is good for beginners or the advanced. This is the deck I would recommend to everyone.

You won't be disappointed,
It's difficult to reccommend a tarot deck because everyone is different, and has their own preferences. However, I have 3 other tarot decks, and this one, I am drawn to the most when I do readings. For me, a certain powerful energy is released when I use the deck. The colours on the cards are dark, and not as bright as the Rider-Waite deck. That did take some time to get used to. The book that comes with the deck is a good resource, but is skimpy on some interpretations on the readings. The back of the cards are blue, with white stars. In all, it's an excellent deck, at least in my opinion. If you bought it, I don't feel you would be disappointed.

The best tarot deck
This is the only deck I actually use. It is based on the symbology of the Rider Waite deck (the standard of 20th century tarot), but it is easier to read. The pictures are wonderful. I recommend it very highly

Morgan'S Mercenaries: Heart Of Stone
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (March, 2001)
Author: Lindsay Mckenna
Average review score:

Choppers, women in black, & a man who needs to learn!
If you follow the tales of Morgan Mercenaries's you will love this addition to your collection.
Dane is a man in need of learning a lesson of life and Maya's just the woman to teach it to him....while finding herself in need of one as well!
As for the choppers and women in black....you'll just have to buy the book to get *those* answers!

Another priceless gem in the Morgan's Mercenaries Universe!
This time, it's Capt. Maya Stevenson and Major Dane York's turn, and it's one of the best yet. The adventure in this book kept me totally glued, yet the powerful and realistic love story truly moved my heart. As usual, Ms. McKenna gives us the best of both worlds, illustrating what romantic adventure is all about. It was wonderful reading about a strong, dynamic woman, and a man willing to become all that he can be...two people I would definitely want to know in reality, and have on my side! I'm looking forward to the next set of stories featuring the women of the Black Jaguar Squadron...NONE of them should be missed!

Highest recommendation---5 stars.

An EXCELLENT book!
I've been a fan of Morgan's Mercenaries, and this book was NOT a dissapointment!! Definitely hard to put down. As far as I'm concerned, this is a great investment!
